Youthstream released the provisional calender for 2009 and it's a good thing to see the FIM Supermoto Championship will also race in Britain! On 30 May (Saturday) the best supermoto riders of the world will race at Mallory Park

Hiemer & Chareyre 2008 World champions

Hiemer won the Greek GP and the S1 title all in one day

THESSALONIKI (GREECE), 19 October 2008 – Bernd Hiemer and Adrien Chareyre took the S1 and S2 titles respectively with dominant performances as the two won today’s Grand Prix.

With each of the four moto containing lots of drama and action Hiemer and Chareyre eventually came out on top of the overall to consolidate their authority in the Championship.

Hiemer clinched another crown since his maiden title in 2006 as Chareyre collected his second consecutive title after last year’s success in the S1 class.

Thierry Van Den Bosch and Ivan Lazzarini rounded off today’s S1 podium and finished second and third in the Championship respectively.

Gozzini and Chareyre were second and first at the end of heat one

In the S2 class the Greek round marked a podium comeback for Attilio Pignotti and Lorenzo Mariani as Davide Gozzini and Gerald Delepine completed the top three in the Championship.

Despite missing out the overall victory Oliver Pope became European Champion in the S3 class as Luca D’Addato took the Open class Title after winning both heats.

XTRM AMA Supermoto Championship Series Finale Location & Date Announced

XTRM Supermoto National Championship Series finale, presented by Parts Unlimited, will be held the weekend of November 14 and 15 at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California. This double-header finale will be a pure slugfest, sure to provide a spectacular finish to the series.

This closely fought yearlong battle for three AMA Supermoto Championships will come to a stunning, street fight like conclusion. The eventual champions will be awarded among the top Pro contestants in a total of SIX point paying finals over the weekend. With the Premier 450 class, the big bore ‘Open’ class and 250cc ‘Lites’ titles all up for grabs.

This is one of the best opportunities for race fans to witness the best bar banging action ever seen in a take it all season ending battle of the titans.

Qualification results Grand Prix of Greece

THESSALONIKI (GREECE), 18 October 2008 – The battle has started at a cloudy Thessaloniki today as the World and European SuperMoto series are going to assign the titles tomorrow.

Thierry Van Den Bosch secured the pole from Thomas Chareyre and Championship leader Bernd Hiemer. In the S2 class Adrien Chareyre took pole to start his title chase while runner up Davide Gozzini finished a close second behind the Frenchman.

In the European Championship scene Olivier Scheen took the S3 pole from series leader Oliver Pope as Luca D’Addato topped the Open time sheets being on route to the Title.

DRC SuperMoto Aprilia Factory’s Thierry Van Den Bosch is fully exploiting his only Title chance as he took today’s pole in dominant style going out for a storming lap and leaving the opposition more than half a second behind. Later on Thomas Chareyre of Husqvarna CH Racing closed in on the three time World Champion and moved past Hiemer to secure the second best time.

KTM Italia Miglio’s Bernd Hiemer ended a solid third as a mistake in the sky section hampered his last fast lap try. Other DRC SuperMoto Aprilia Factory Superider Ivan Lazzarini ended the time practice in fourth place to secure a spot on tomorrow’s front row.

The Italian looks forward to tomorrow when he will battle it out with VDB and the winner of the last two GP’s Chareyre to grasp the runner up spot in the Championship. Matthew Winstanley rounded off the top five ahead of Championship rival Sylvain Bidart as the duo is due to fight tooth and nail for the fifth place.

Husqvarna CH Racing’s Adrien Chareyre started off strong and topped the time sheets right from his first outing on the Drive Park course.Later on in the session KTM Italia Miglio’s Attilio Pignotti closed in on the Championship leader and clocked the second best lap time ahead of TM Factory’s Davide Gozzini.

The “Gozzo” is chasing Chareyre for the Championship from second and desperately wanted to close in on the 22 year old during today’s session. Gozzini unleashed his TM in the last minutes of the time practice moving up to second but an unfortunate final lap try left him with no chance to move past Chareyre. Right back from his first season’s podium in Busca DRC SuperMoto Aprilia Factory’s Christian Iddon took third ahead of Pignotti.

Last year’s Champion Gerald Delepine was fifth ahead of young gun Andrea Occhini.

Mettet Superbiker Weekend

For 3 days in a row the Belgian town of Mettet is being transformed to a Supermoto race fest featuring the biggest Supermoto(and other Motorsports) stars on the planet. This weekend: Grand Prix of Greece who will win the titles?

THESSALONIKI (GREECE), 17 October 2008 – One round is left before both the S1 and the S2 World Titles will be taken and the place to be this weekend is Thessaloniki’s Drive Park in Greece.

Bernd Hiemer leads the S1 Championship with a 29 point advantage over runner up Thierry Van Den Bosch, with the latter also being involved in a dice for second with Thomas Chareyre and Ivan Lazzarini.

In the S2 Championship leader Adrien Chareyre will try to seal his second consecutive World Title but an extremely motivated runner up Davide Gozzini will give chase right from free practice one.

Both UEM titles will be assigned this weekend; Oliver Pope leads the S3 class ahead of archrival Olivier Scheen as Luca D’ Addato will face runner up Heino Meusburger in the battle deciding the Open title.

Bernd Hiemer is extremely close to seal his second World Title this weekend

KTM Italia Miglio’s Bernd Hiemer is focused on sealing the S1 World Title as he leads the points standings with a 29 point advantage over runner up Thierry Van Den Bosch.

Losing vital points at Busca the DRC SuperMoto Aprilia Factory Superider will give it all this weekend in his last effort for the title but the Frenchman has to watch his back as well; other Superiders Thomas Chareyre, the winner of the latest two GP’s, and Ivan Lazzarini are chasing three time World Champion VDB for second in the Championship.

Matthew Winstanley currently sits in fifth but sixth placed Sylvain Bidart is super pumped after his first season’s moto win at Pleven during last weekend’s SMoN and he has a solid chance to move past the Brit this weekend.

Jerome Giraudo will miss the season’s finale after his crash at Busca; though the Superider is healing well and should be completely recovered in a couple of weeks.

The last effort for Adrien Chareyre will be defending from Davide Gozzini in Thessaloniki

Deciding the Championship in the very last round is no news for Husqvarna CH Racing’s Adrien Chareyre as the current S2 red plate holder grasped last year’s title in an equal scenario.

Though this year there is a much closer runner up in the likes of TM Factory’s Davide Gozzini, who follows Chareyre from an 11 point distance. A double victory is what the Italian looks for as he does want to take this final chance for his maiden World Title.

The battle for third sees 2007 S2 World Champion Gerald Delepine on route to a clash with last year’s runner up Attilio Pignotti in what will be a similar finale to last year’s Championship where the duo battled for the Title until the final round.

Aprilia fellow Superiders Luca Minutilli and Christian Iddon round off the top six as other Aprilia man Massimo Beltrami will make his comeback to the GP scene after an injury.

Italy wins Supermoto of Nations

PLEVEN (BULGARIA), 12 October 2008 – Edition three of the FIM SuperMoto of Nations was a close one on the fabulous track of Pleven in Bulgaria where 15,000 spectators showed up and even celebrated an unexpected home podium. Italy won with France taking second.

Team Bulgaria with Alexander Georgiev, Ales Hlad and Rosen Tonchev actually finished a solid third on their first ever podium that was decided in a breathtaking final moto.

Italy took the eventual victory despite the technical problems affecting Davide Gozzini in the opening heat. Ivan Lazzarini added a little bit of drama to the final heat crashing out at the beginning of lap two as Attilio Pignotti rode two solid heats to help the squad secure their second Francesco Zerbi Trophy.

Second on the rostrum was team France. Final moto winner Sylvain Bidart alongside SMoN debutants Adrien Goguet and Stephane Blot could not defend last year’s victory but went home with a promising second.

Great Britain was a virtual third in the final heat but took fourth eventually with the Czech Republic rounding off the top five.

HEAT 1 - S1+S2

Georgiev led the pack into turn one but pole sitter Lazzarini stormed up to first at the following turn. The Italian ran away with the lead and took the eventual victory as the fight for the runner up spot saw Georgiev getting busy in a battle with Winstanley. The Brit crashed and had to recover from fifth back to third as Georgiev was second. Bidart started from the back of the pack but moved up to a solid fourth leading team mate Goguet in the final laps. Hlad completed the top six for Bulgaria ahead of Gozzini suffering with a technical problem.

HEAT 2 – S2+OPEN

Gozzini took his revenge in the second moto starting off from the back of the group then recovering to first. Bocek took the holeshot, tried to escape but Gozzini took no prisoners and the Czech could not defend himself from the Italian. Both Bocek and early second place holder Tonchev dropped down to an eventual fifth and sixth respectively. Great Britain surprised with young gun Hodgson who rode to second despite this being his maiden experience on a 505cc KTM machine. France was third with Goguet who completed a stunning move on both Pignotti and Bocek in the sky section with only two laps to go. As the duo went on the inside finding a lapped rider Goguet was full gas on the outside and passed both at the same corner. Pignotti finished right behind in fourth.

HEAT 3 – S1+OPEN

Lazzarini put himself on route to another victory after grabbing the holeshot but he lost the front end at the beginning of lap two handing the lead to Bidart. The Frenchman paid tribute to his number one plate and went on to win the final moto defending from a hungry Winstanley. The duo pulled away from third placed Lazzarini –the Italian recovered well after the crash- and with a bunch of laps remaining Winstanley cut the gap to only 0.3 seconds. With a strong final lap Bidart secured the victory ahead of Winstanley. Pignotti took fourth behind the Lazza with Bocek finishing once again fifth. Barragan was sixth for Spain as Bulgaria took a seventh and an eighth with Georgiev and Tonchev.

The Supermoto of Nations is a unique event and comes once a year though after today’s great show in Pleven the SuperMoto action continues. Next weekend in Thessaloniki the Greek Grand Prix will take place and put an end to the GP campaign. Both the S1 and S2 World Titles will be taken there.

KTM 690SMC R ???

Spotted at the GP of Austria a while ago was Hannes Maier riding a special KTM 690SMC prototype in the S2 class. Like the KTM 990 Supermoto R released a month ago, this version has an orange frame, white plastics and a different gas tank. Looks a lot like its 690 Enduro R brother actually.

Will KTM release a KTM 690SMC R at the EICMA in Milan? Time will tell...

New Husaberg FE450 in Supermoto trim

Spotted these new Husaberg FE450's in Supermoto trim. The new Husaberg has a revolutionary new engine design with a 70-degree single overhead cam fuel injected 450 or 570 cc engine. The engineers at Husaberg wanted the crankshaft as near as possible to the center of gravity. So they designed a new engine that has the crankshaft above the transmission and a radical 70 degree cilinder setup(see pic above).

Hopefully Husaberg will also produce an official supermoto model, but no word about that yet.

Italy dominates Supermoto of Nations Qualifying

Lazzarini was first in the S1 qualifying heat

PLEVEN (BULGARIA), 11 October 2008 – This third edition of the FIM SuperMoto of Nations in Pleven started off with Italy dominating all three qualifying motos. Ivan Lazzarini (S1), Davide Gozzini (S2) and Attilio Pignotti (Open) put Italy on top of the qualifying standings by winning one moto each today.

Bulgaria took a stunning second showing a very solid shape for tomorrow. S1 rider Alexander Georgiev was fourth with Ales Hlad ending second in S2 and Rosen Tonchev rounding off a positive day with third in the Open class.

The S2 moto was Gozzini’s business

Defending Champion Team France rounded off the top three with Sylvain Bidart a solid second in S1 and Adrien Goguet third in the S2. Stephane Blot was sixth in the Open class.

Czech Republic (Petr Vorlicek, David Brabec, Jiri Bocek) and Great Britain (Matthew Winstanley, Chris Hodgson, Ady Smith) qualified in fourth and fifth respectively as the British team suffered with Ady Smith breaking the rear tyre in his qualifying heat.

AMA/XTRM Supermoto Championship final cancelled

Aprilia released their SX125 in new colors at the Intermot Show in Cologne. The technical side of the bike is the same as the 2008 model but the 2009 has black rims and blacks fairings with new decals. Also the frame received a new lick of red paint. To bad this model won't be available in the US since its faster than the Kawasaki KLX250SF & Honda CRF230M.

- 115kg dry weight(252lbs)

World's first electric Supermoto

Swiss electric bike manufacturer Quantya has been one of the first on the planet to release a electric mx bike: the Quantya Evo1. Next to the Track version they also have a street legal Strada version which is legal to ride on the road in Germany. Since they have really strict rules in germany for road bikes, it should not be hard to get it street legal in any other country.

Some specs of the bike:

Weight: 85kg
Torque: 31.5 Nm (about the same as a Honda CRF250R)
Suspension: Marzocchi Shiver 40mm fork and Sachs rear shock
Price: €7800 (+taxes)

Now the good news, starting January 2009 the Evo1 Strada will also be available in supermoto version! The set will costs €490 (+taxes). The kit includes:

- Supermoto wheels with street tyres
- 52 teeth rear sprocket
- Front & Rear wave discs

A thrilling GP at Busca Italy

Thomas Chareyre won his second consecutive GP and also second of the 2008 season

BUSCA (ITALY), 5 October 2008 – A thrilling penultimate round of the 2008 campaign prepared what will be a fantastic finale in Greece in a couple of weeks.

With Thomas Chareyre winning an eventful S1 Grand Prix and Thierry Van Den Bosch being disqualified in heat one Bernd Hiemer capitalized on his Championship lead. The latter was third on the podium as local favourite Ivan Lazzarini was second.

Adrien Chareyre won the S2 class making it another Chareyre one-two after the very first time two brothers won a GP in the same day at Andorra. Chareyre capitalized on his lead as runner up Davide Gozzini crashed in heat two. The “Gozzo” was second on the podium ahead of Christian Iddon rounding off his first season’s rostrum.

In the UEM SuperMoto series Fabrizio Bartolini wrapped up the overall in the Open class with Luca D’Addato securing the Championship lead courtesy of a second overall. In the S3 class Olivier Scheen won the round from Championship leader Oliver Pope and Matteo Traversa.

Thierry Van Den Bosch won heat two from Ivan Lazzarini

It was an eventful S1 Grand Prix with Husqvarna CH Racing’s Thomas Chareyre taking his second consecutive win as KTM Italia Miglio’s Bernd Hiemer built on his Championship lead courtesy of a third overall. DRC SuperMoto Aprilia Factory’s Thierry Van Den Bosch was disqualified in heat one because of being too hot in his attack to Hiemer for first as both crashed. In the second heat VDB won but lost valuable points to Hiemer in the Championship. VDB’s team mate Ivan Lazzarini salvaged the weekend with a solid second overall as he made a mistake and crashed in heat one. Eddy Seel and Fabio Balducci rounded off the top five with VDB being an eventual eighth.

After a positive first heat in third place Jerome Giraudo crashed hard in the following heat and was immediately brought to the Santa Croce e Carle Hospital in Cuneo. The rider is currently undergoing the necessary tests in order to evaluate his condition.

Top five overall: 1. Thomas Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), 45 points; 2. Ivan Lazzarini (ITA, Aprilia), 40 p.; 3. Bernd Hiemer (GER, KTM), 40 p.; 4. Eddy Seel (BEL, Suzuki), 32 p.; 5. Fabio Balducci (ITA, Suzuki), 30 p.

Adrien Chareyre’s chase to Davide Gozzini in heat one ended in the final lap when the Italian lost the front

Husqvarna CH Racing’s Adrien Chareyre took a solid victory on rival Gozzini’s ground as the latter fell after dominating most of heat one. TM Factory Racing’s Davide Gozzini was out for revenge in heat two and won to secure the second overall position. A mistake by Chareyre in heat two saw his overall advantage on Gozzini slim to five points only while PMR H2O Aprilia Off Road’s Christian Iddon mounted on the podium for the first time this season. Other Husqvarna CH Racing rider Gerald Delepine was fourth with BRT’s Paolo Gaspardone fifth. After a positive third in heat one Attilio Pignotti dropped to sixth overall due to a troubled final moto.

Van den Bosch takes Pole in Busca GP

BUSCA (ITALY), 4 October 2008 – A sunny Busca welcomed the Superiders at this penultimate round of the 2008 season.

Thierry Van Den Bosch took a storming pole in the S1 class leading Championship leader Bernd Hiemer. It was Adrien Chareyre taking the honours in the S2 class topping the time sheets ahead of Christian Iddon.

In the S3 class Olivier Scheen took pole as Fabrizio Bartolini was the quickest in the Open class.

Courtesy of an incredible lap DRC SuperMoto Aprilia Factory’s Thierry Van Den Bosch took today’s pole as he was the sole rider breaking the 1 minute 19 second barrier. The Frenchman sits second in the standings as KTM Italia Miglio’s Bernd Hiemer leads the Championship.

The latter took a solid second quickest time behind VDB as he led the first half of the timed session before Van Den Bosch’s charge.

The duo will be back to action tomorrow morning fighting for the Superpole together with other challengers HM Honda Racing Monticelli’s Jerome Giraudo and the winner of the latest GP in Andorra Thomas Chareyre onboard the Husqvarna CH Racing machine.

Third placed in the Championship Ivan Lazzarini took fifth missing the front row by 0.2 seconds as Eddy Seel was sixth.

Using a special clutch lever combining also the rear brake lever Matthew Winstanley struggled throughout qualifying and decided to use the standard brake and clutch system in tomorrow’s GP.

Championship leader Adrien Chareyre took a solid pole aboard the works Husqvarna with PMR H2O Aprilia Off Road’s Christian Iddon and KTM Italia Miglio’s Attilio Pignotti also on the same pace of 1.19 minutes.

The trio will head the Superpole challenge as TM Factory’s Davide Gozzini is set to round off the front row after a shot to the top spot tomorrow.

Gozzini is still six points off Chareyre in a dogfight for the S2 World Title; Gerald Delepine is a distant third and he was fifth in today’s time sheets.

The defending Champion will head row two next to young guns and home riders Andrea Occhini and Paolo Gaspardone.

Luca Minutilli was ninth as he can still build on his fifth place in the Championship exploiting Massimo Beltrami’s absence due to injury.

Lazzarini and Gozzini still holding a title chance

FUNCHAL (PORTUGAL), 1 October 2008 – As the 2008 season draws to a close none of the two World Titles has been won in the S1 and S2 classes; the fact keeps up the excitement as the circus enters Busca for the penultimate round of the GP campaign.

Bernd Hiemer retained the S1 lead after a tough Andorran GP where Thomas Chareyre won his first overall of the year. Italian Lazzarini and Aprilia fellow rider Van Den Bosch are still in the chase for the title.

Chareyre’s brother Adrien completed a legendary one-two by winning the S2 GP from rival Davide Gozzini and Gerald Delepine. The fight for the S2 crown now seems a private affair in between Chareyre and Gozzini.

In the UEM S3 series Oliver Pope leads the way as Heino Meusburger is on top of the Open class Championship.

After a superb performance in Andorra Husqvarna CH Racing’s Thomas Chareyre has increased his World Title chances dramatically as he sits fourth with a 38 point gap from leader Bernd Hiemer. Last year in Busca a mechanical failure prevented Chareyre to take another double heat win as the young Frenchman dnf’d in heat one then dominated the final heat.

With 100 points to be taken in the final two rounds KTM Italia Miglio’s Hiemer has four other moto’s to secure the Title. Hiemer sits first in the standings but has not been winning since Valladolid even though his impressive consistency saw him miss the podium just once in Andorra.

Busca is actually a bittersweet venue for the German. In a troubled debut season in the S1 class Hiemer took his first podium last year at Busca as the year before he crashed twice on his way to his maiden World Title.

DRC SuperMoto Aprilia Factory team mates Thierry Van Den Bosch and Ivan Lazzarini are currently the closest rivals to Hiemer as they sit in second and third in the Championship with Chareyre rounding off a close top four.

The Lazza and VDB were second and third on the Andorran podium collecting the same amount of points each as Hiemer lost four points on both. Busca will be another home GP for Italian Lazzarini who took victory at the Kart Planet in 2006.A solid Matthew Winstanley rounds off the top five ahead of Sylvain Bidart.

After a dogfight with archrival Gozzini Adrien Chareyre of Husqvarna CH Racing eventually won the Andorran Grand Prix but could not pull away from the Italian in the Championship.

TM Factory Racing’s Davide Gozzini took a hard fought second ending level in points with Chareyre to limit the damages to the points standings.

Six points divide the duo who is set to continue battling until the final round in Greece as third placed and defending Champion Gerald Delepine of Husqvarna CH Racing is losing contact with the leaders.

Delepine built on his position by taking his second consecutive podium after Austria; on the other hand last year’s runner up Attilio Pignotti of KTM Italia Miglio has been on the podium just twice as he sits in fourth behind Delepine.

PMR H2O Aprilia Off Road’s Luca Minutilli is currently the highest placed Aprilia rider in fifth and he pulled away from Aprilia fellow rider Massimo Beltrami in Andorra as the latter missed the event due to a wrist injury.

A distant Christian Iddon is eighth behind Lorenzo Mariani; a mid season injury forced the Brit to sit out of two Grand Prix’s as the misfortune reflected on the points standings. Though Iddon will seek revenge in Busca where last year he won the second GP of his career.

Chareyre brothers win Grand Prix of Andorra

PAS DE LA CASA (ANDORRA), 21 September 2008 – The maiden SuperMoto World Championship outing at Pas de la Casa in Andorra unveiled to be a great showdown. The Chareyre brothers Thomas and Adrien won the S1 and S2 GP respectively to mark a step stone in the history of the sport. For the first time ever two brothers riding for the same manufacturer and team won a GP each in the same day.

Ivan Lazzarini and Thierry Van Den Bosch rounded off the S1 podium with Davide Gozzini and Gerald Delepine completing the S2 podium.

Bernd Hiemer still leads the S1 Championship from VDB as the battle in between S2 series leader Adrien Chareyre and runner up Davide Gozzini is set to continue at the following round in Busca.

Oliver Pope reinforced his S3 lead by winning this sixth round as Luca D’Addato closed in on Open class leader Heino Meusburger by winning the overall.

Collecting victory in both heats Husqvarna CH Racing’s Thomas Chareyre rounded off a superb weekend as he was even starting from first on the grid after his Superpole success.

Chareyre won his first GP of 2008 ahead of DRC SuperMoto Aprilia Factory team mates Ivan Lazzarini and Thierry Van Den Bosch with the latter struggling to get to grips with the track.

After a first moto hampered by a couple of crashes KTM Italia Miglio’s Bernd Hiemer salvaged his Championship lead courtesy of a fourth place overall ahead of HM Honda Racing Monticelli’s Jerome Giraudo.

Chareyre took a great start and led from there to the chequered flag. Early runner up Hiemer crashed a couple of times ending seventh as VDB found himself second after the German’s first crash. Van Den Bosch held on to finish second as Lazzarini could not close the gap ending third eventually. Winstanley was fourth ahead of Giraudo with Rigal ending sixth after a solid start.

A very motivated Hiemer got off to a great start but after three laps Chareyre exploited a mistake of the German to take the lead. Chareyre flew to victory as Hiemer could not catch up ending second. Despite trying a late charge on Hiemer Lazzarini finished third ahead of a distant Van Den Bosch. Giraudo secured another fifth place.

Following the disappointment of losing victory in a close opening moto Husqvarna CH Racing’s Adrien Chareyre stormed to victory in heat two wrapping up the overall ahead of first heat winner Davide Gozzini of TM Factory – the duo was level in points.

Despite struggling with his injured wrist PMR H2O Aprilia Off Road’s Christian Iddon soldiered on to take fourth overall ahead of a surprising debutant Dominique Poulain.

Attilio Pignotti ended sixth overall after entering an exciting three way battle for third with Iddon and Delepine at heat two.

An injured Luca Minutilli was ninth as his closest Championship rival Massimo Beltrami had to miss the event due to another injury.

Holeshotter Gozzini was passed by Chareyre by the end of the opening lap; the duo went on in the race banging bars with a bunch of laps remaining. Gozzini made a successful move on Chareyre who tried to reply by going on the inside of Gozzini at the second sky section. Chareyre stalled the bike losing touch with eventual winner Gozzini and ending second. After an early crash Delepine settled into third ahead of Poulain and Iddon.

THE UEM EUROPEAN SUPERMOTO CHAMPIONSHIP

Today’s victory saw Oliver Pope take a step closer to the S3 Title as previous runner up Olivier Scheen dropped down to third in the points after a disqualification in heat one. Taking second on the podium Alessandro Asnicar moved up to second in the Championship.

Topping the overall classification in the Open class was Luca D’Addato who chipped away at the gap from series leader Heino Meusburger. The Italian is just three points away from the Austrian ending a disappointing sixth today as Alberto Dall’Era and Luca De Angelis rounded off the podium.

Chareyre brothers and Husqvarna fastest at day one in Andorra

A beautiful day gave the SuperMoto riders the start to their maiden appearance in Andorra at the Grand Prix Pas de la Casa Grandvalira.

Thomas Chareyre stormed to pole in the S1 class leading Aprilia fellow Superiders Thierry Van Den Bosch and Ivan Lazzarini as red plate holder Bernd Hiemer will also find a spot in tomorrow’s front row.

In S2 Thomas’ older brother Adrien wrapped up the pole being the only S2 Superider lapping under the one minute barrier. Davide Gozzini ended second ahead of Gerald Delepine and Christian Iddon.

Oliver Pope (S3) and Luca D’Addato (Open) took the UEM series’ poles.

Husqvarna CH Racing’s Thomas Chareyre got to grips perfectly with the highly located race track at Pas de la Casa. The Frenchman took pole at mid-session (lap 18) but carried on for further 10 laps to increase the already positive feeling with the course.

DRC SuperMoto Aprilia Factory Team mates Thierry Van Den Bosch and Ivan Lazzarini were second and third quickest respectively as VDB missed the pole by 0.083 seconds.

KTM Italia Miglio’s Bernd Hiemer showed a solid form by taking the fourth quickest spot less than half a second off Chareyre’s pole.

The first four were the only ones to have lapped under the one minute barrier displaying a pace that might leave the crowd breathless with a four way battle for victory tomorrow.

Guillaume Rigal rounded off the top five ahead of French countryman Jerome Giraudo.

Matching his younger brother and team mate’s performance Husqvarna CH Racing’s Adrien Chareyre took today’s pole being the only S2 Superider lapping under the one minute barrier. The Championship leader put himself in the best spot in order to clinch the Superpole and the head of the first row.

Despite trying incredibly hard to beat Chareyre’s record latest GP winner Davide Gozzini of TM Factory Racing ended up in second place as he will restart the chase to Chareyre right from tomorrow’s Superpole.

Other Husqvarna CH Racing’s rider Gerald Delepine was a positive third, the same position that he holds in the points standings being the defending S2 Champion.

PMR H2O Aprilia Off Road’s Christian Iddon made it to a hard fought fourth as the Brit is still feeling pain to his injured wrist – he just came back to the GP scene in Austria.

Lorenzo Mariani rounded off the top five ahead of Attilio Pignotti and Luca Minutilli.

Preview Grand Prix of Andorra

For round six of the 2008 season SuperMoto goes to Pas de la Casa in Andorra to carry on the battle for the S1, S2, S3 and Open class titles.

Bernd Hiemer tops the S1 standings from Thierry Van Den Bosch and an upcoming Ivan Lazzarini, even though the latter is 40 points adrift.

Adrien Chareyre leads a close Davide Gozzini in the S2 Championship while third placed Gerald Delepine is more than 50 points behind the pair.

Leading the UEM series are Oliver Pope (S3) and Heino Meusburger (Open).

Adding one more heat win to his account in Greinbach DRC SuperMoto Aprilia Factory’s Ivan Lazzarini continues to be on his winning form since Valladolid after a poor start to the 2008 campaign. With the S1 GP curtailed to one single moto after the accident in heat two the Lazza wrapped up the GP overall as well but he is exactly 40 points behind leader Hiemer.

KTM Italia Miglio’s Bernd Hiemer leads the S1 standings with a solid advantage over third placed Lazzarini but other DRC SuperMoto Aprilia Factory Superider and three time World Champion Thierry Van Den Bosch is just 18 points adrift as he failed to make up ground on the German due to a start crash at the latest event.

Despite not having taken victories as the pair following him in the Championship did, Hiemer is still the only Superider to have mounted on the podium at each round showing an incredible consistency.

Sitting fourth in the standings is Husqvarna CH Racing’s Thomas Chareyre who is followed from close by Robinsons KTM UK’s Matthew Winstanley, TM Factory’s Boris Chambon and Cross 2R Husqvarna’s Sylvain Bidart taking podium at Greinbach.

Rounding off the top five overall in Austria was a confidence booster for GP winner Fabio Balducci and 2004 World Champion Jerome Giraudo as they are eighth and tenth in the standings respectively.

At the latest round in Greinbach TM Factory’s Davide Gozzini could only gain one point on series leader Adrien Chareyre of Husqvarna CH Racing as it was a close battle for victory in between the two.

Gozzini won from Chareyre and other Husqvarna CH Racing Superider Gerald Delepine even though the Italian faded to third after a promising start in heat two. Delepine won the final heat –the first of the season- to capitalize on his third place in the Championship.

The defending S2 Champion is more than 50 points away from the leading duo meaning that he must try his hardest if he still wants to defend the crown from the two youngsters.

KTM Italia Miglio’s Attilio Pignotti is fourth in between Delepine and a very close Luca Minutilli of PMR H2O Aprilia Off Road. The latter is definitely the revelation of the year as he started to show a solid form since he received factory support to his twin cylinder SXV 550 from the Italian manufacturer. Ending third in the heats for three times this year including Torino’s first ever top three finish of his career the Italian from Terracina never missed the points zone so far.

After coming back to racing in Austria other PMR H2O Aprilia Off Road Superider Christian Iddon is all set on improving his tenth place in the standings. Ending a close fifth behind Motoracing’s Ales Hlad in Austria was a promising return for Iddo seeking his first season’s podium in Pas de la Casa.

Motocross Digital is a free online magazine that has a montly issue filled with the latest motocross,enduro and supermoto news. Always a very interesting read. There is a Supermoto news section in the magazine and also several pages with the latest race reports from the AMA Supermoto,Italian Supermoto and World Supermoto championships.

Yamaha introduces new WR125R & X

Yamaha will look to bolster its sales in the 125 market with the introduction of two new models to line-up alongside the YZF-125-R. The WR125X supermoto and WR125R enduro.

The new motorcycles follow along the same lines as the popular Yamaha YZF-R125 with full-sized chassis designs and the same 124.7cc liquid-cooled four stroke engine.

The new models will give an alternative to the already available WR250X and R with a newly-designed diamond-shaped steel frame and an enduro racing-style tank and seat.

These two motorbikes come with 41mm front forks and a seven-preload-adjustable rear shock.

Both also come with lightweight aluminium wheels, with the WR125R getting the same 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels that are fitted to the manufactures WR250F enduro race bike.

Stopping power is bolstered with the WR125X Supermoto getting a 298mm front disc with a floating two-pot calliper while the WR125R Enduro has a slightly bigger 240mm wavy disc at the front with the same floating calliper layout.

Both have a single disc and single calliper setup for the rear braking system.

And to complete the appeal, both machines come with a LCD display.

The WR125X will come in Racing Blue and Sports White, while the WR125R will be available in Racing Blue and Yamaha Black.

AMA XTRM Supermoto Championship at Miller Utah

450/Premier

The KTM boys took both heat races just a little bit ago here at Miller. Heat race #1 was Chris Fillmore who pulled out a gap on Jeff Ward and Cassidy Anderson in the 4lap Heat. Anderson was able to work his way past Ward on the second lap and closed in on the top time getter in practice earlier in the day, Fillmore, but it was the HMC/KTM rider that got the win and the pole for the main.

Heat race #2 featured the other member of the KTM squad, Troy Herfoss who pulled a good size gap on Aprilia's Ben Carlson right off the start who in turn was in front of a hot battle featuring first, Dalton Dimick of the XXX Racing Fuels team, then Yamaha's Mark Burkhart sandwiched in between the teammate of Dimick, Robbie Horton. Burkhart was able to work his way past Dimick on the second lap and put his head down to close the gap to Herfoss but the man in Orange was not to be headed. Final was Herfoss, Burkhart, Carlson, Dimick, Horton. Should be some great action come Main event time!

250/Lites

In Heat #1 it was Matt Abbott was taking the holeshot followed by Casey Yarrow and then Lites points leader, Brandon Currie. On the second lap Currie made a pass on Abbott in the second dirt section and started to pull away. Behind Abbott was the battle featuring Johnny Lewis, Casey Yarrow, Andrew Hyder and Danny Casey. The four of these combatants battled through the 4lap event and the final order was Currie, Abbott, Lewis, Yarrow, Casey.

Heat Race #2 was a barn burner with Matt Burton leading Robert Loire, David Pingree and rookie Supermoto rider/Gray Davenport. The race would be a battle royale as Pingree and Davenport caught up to Burton and they all were in a conga line as they came across start finish for the last time.......Matt Burton, Davenport then Pingree all separated by less than a second.

Unlimited

Race #1 was a Darryl Atkins runaway with the fastest man in practice showing the way from start to finish over the rest of the field. Race #2 saw Steve Drew get the win over Josh Chisum and Micky Dymond rounding out the top three.

Belgian Supermoto racer Skully25 made a very nice supermoto movie a year ago which he sold on dvd. But now he is offering the complete movie as a free download!

The movie is an hour long and contains everything from racing to street riding. Here's what the creator had to say about it:

About a year ago I started my own video project which was supposed to be a compilation of all the best footage I shot during the 3 years I've been riding my bike. by large request I ended up making that video into a DVD. it contains footage of our ride-outs, trackdays and races (including the well known superbiker race at mettet)

I'm now putting up the complete video up for download. it's a low resolution version of the original to keep filesize down but it still contains all the footage.

keep in mind this is a hobby project, it's not like ryan moore's X-dream film or trachy's instructional dvd when you look at quality or editing, I wish I was that good or had the resources to make something like that I made the whole video in Imovie on my mac and burned all the copies of the dvd on my own computer with the sole intention of providing my friends and fellow riders with some amusement. now I wanted to go a little further and make it available to others as well.

2009 Honda CRF450

As you know of might not know. The first info and pics of the 2009 Honda CRF450 have been released. The bike is almost totally new and looks like a very fast package. Ideal for Supermoto ofcourse. The CRF450's have been kicking ass in the AMA supermoto championship the previous years but in Europe you can hardly find them at the front. Kinda weird actually.

Well I felt inspired and made a special Supermoto Central version of the 2009 CRF450.

The Spanish brand GASGAS have released the pics and info of their 2009 Supermoto models. I must say they did a great job. Esspecially the SM450 and 515 are beautiful. The Halley versions look a bit more street friendly with the rear passegner pegs and indicators. The Halley 450 also has 41mm forks instead of the 48mm forks on the SM450. I must admit the forks look a bit thin without the protectors on them. The bikes have a fuel injected four stroke engined which produces about 50hp. I hope we will see the SM450 or 515 in the S1 and S2 Supermoto classes next year.

There also is a 125cc two stroke Supermoto in the GASGAS lineup. A very nice bike aimed at the license restricted 17 year olds in the south european countries and the UK. Competition for Aprilia's SX125 and Husqvarna's SM125.

KTM expands their Supermoto line with the KTM SM990 „R “. Based on the 2008 KTM 990 Supermoto the Supermoto R has a new color scheme with white plastics and an orange powdercoated frame. Other changes are a black swingarm and a smaller tank.

Any changes on the engine and suspension are unknown. The bike will be presented to the public at the 2008 EICMA bike show in Milan coming november.

Benelli BX Supermoto

Spotted at the paddock of World Supermoto Championship in Olbia was the new Benelli BX Supermoto. We are still waiting for the cross (on the market in October) and enduro (December), versions but Benelli already has plans for a Supermoto version. The bike on the pics is a BX in street version, but rumours go around that Benelli want to enter the World Supermoto Championship S1 in 2009 with a 450 version. The engine, which uses titanium valves to rev to 11,000rpm — impossibly high for a single — and in 449cc form makes 52bhp. It uses a single-piece cast crankcase to make it incredibly compact. It also has a right-side chain and left-side kickstart.

But it's the chassis that really differs from the norm. A single cradle made from forged, cast and extruded elements, the top portion on both sides features a carbon strut that completes the top of the cradle. This strut is removable and replaceable with ones of different thicknesses, allowing riders to tune the chassis for stiffness to suit individual riding styles or tracks.

The release of a Supermoto version is not certain but if all goes well the BX Supermoto should be on the market at the end of 2009.

Results Austrian GP

GREINBACH (AUSTRIA), 24 August 2008 – A bright sun characterized the final day of the Austrian GP in Greinbach. Ivan Lazzarini won the S1 class from Bernd Hiemer and Sylvain Bidart. Alessandro Asnicar won the S3 class as Viktor Bolsek won in the Open class.

The second S1 moto and the second S3 moto were not run as an accident happened in the early stages of the second S1 heat involving riders Kevin Berthome and Nestor Jorge.

Berthome broke a foot and was taken to the hospital nearby for further checks while Jorge’s injury unveiled to be more serious.

After receiving medical care by specialized trauma doctors to stabilize his condition Jorge was taken to the Graz Hospital by helicopter. Further examinations to evaluate the situation are currently in process.

The event management promptly decided not to run the remaining part of the event’s program as the public and the medical staff gave proof of excellent behaviour in this difficult situation.

S1

DRC SuperMoto Aprilia Factory’s Ivan Lazzarini took his second season’s win courtesy of an outstanding performance in the first moto. KTM Italia Miglio’s Bernd Hiemer was second and increased his Championship lead over Thierry Van Den Bosch. The DRC SuperMoto Aprilia Factory rider was a disappointing tenth as he crashed at the start of the heat. Cross 2R Husqvarna’s Sylvain Bidart completed the top three in the same country where he raced his first GP (Melk 2005) and took his maiden podium (Melk 2006). Fabio Balducci and Jerome Giraudo rounded off the top five.

Top five overall: 1. Ivan Lazzarini (ITA, Aprilia), 25 points; 2. Bernd Hiemer (GER, KTM), 22 p.; 3. Sylvain Bidart (FRA, Husqvarna), 20 p.; 4. Fabio Balducci (ITA, Suzuki), 18 p.; 5. Jerome Giraudo (FRA, Honda), 16 p.

TM Factory Racing’s Davide Gozzini won a very close Grand Prix of Austria with current series leader Adrien Chareyre second despite starting from ninth on the grid. His Husqvarna CH Racing team mate Gerald Delepine made it to the podium in third by winning the final heat as Motoracing KTM’s Ales Hlad clinched a fourth place overall, his best season’s result. Coming back from a hard wrist injury Christian Iddon of PMR H2O Aprilia Off Road took fifth ahead of team mate Luca Minutilli.

Top five overall: 1. Davide Gozzini (ITA, TM), 45 points; 2. Adrien Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), 44 p.; 3. Gérald Delepine (BEL, Husqvarna), 38 p.; 4. Ales Hlad (BUL, KTM), 32 p.; 5. Christian Iddon (GBR, Aprilia), 31 p.

Hiemer has now an advantage of 18 points over runner up VDB, having a bad day in Greinbach. Lazzarini is still third and made up 14 points on his team mate with Chareyre and Winstanley rounding off the top five.

How about a small introduction of yourself to the readers of Supermoto Central?

Ok an introduction. I am 48 years old. I've lived in Hawaii for the past 24 years. I have been a Doctor of Chiropractic for the past 24 years, and a police officer the past 13 years. I have been a member of the Honolulu Police Department's SWAT TEAM the past 8 years, so hence the screen name: SWATDOC.
I have been riding motorcycles since age 15 when I got my first CR125 Honda. I used to live in Oceanside California, so I got to race motocross at the infamous Carlsbad and Saddleback race tracks.

How did you get into supermoto and what do you find so great about it?

I first became interested in Supermoto from going to all of the Superbikers races they had at Carlsbad Raceway. It really looked fun. It definitely seemed like the motocrossers had the edge as guys like Magoo, Steve Wise, Bailey, Ward, etc. dominated most of the time.

When and how did the idea for this project originated? What was your inspiration?

I finally got interested in doing it myself after seeing supermoto had made a comeback, and Suzuki was offering a street legal bike already converted for supermoto. I then picked up my first SM bike, which was a 2006 Suzuki DRZ400SM. That bike didn't stay stock long, as I always have to mod things.

About a year later I heard that it was legal in Hawaii to modify a dirt bike and make it street legal as long as it met the state's requirements. This was important to me as Hawaii had recently lost the only road track on this island, so i had to have a bike that was street legal for me to able to ride it.

What’s was the base for your project?

I've always like the look of the old retro yellow Yamahas, from back in the Bob Hannah days. Therefore the Hurricane style Yamaha was going to be the inspiration for my new project bike. So I picked up a brand new 07 YZ450F, took it home, and tore it down to the bare frame before ever riding it so I could powdercoat the frame black.

Can you tell us in short how the build went? Did you have any big problems or did it all went smooth?

The build went pretty smooth except for getting the wrong Marchesini rear wheel from Motostrano. They sent me an old outdated rim and the spacing with the hub carriers was totally off. I ended up having to pull the tire back off and send the wheel to QTMI to get the proper carriers and spacers installed - all at my expense.

The most challenging thing for running a street legal Yamaha is the limited wattage available for electrics. all aftermarket and rewound stators put out a max of about 50 watts. The requires running a 35 watt headlight and a 1 watt LED tail and brake light. Anything else like turn signals or horn need to be battery powered. Choosing the components is crucial. I am considering running a cooling fan for when I am stopped at a light or in traffic. This will necessitate running it thru a rocker switch in conjunction with my headlight. When I turn the fan on the headlight will go off and vice versa.

Since the pics were taken I picked up the stage 3 cooling kit from PWR, which includes oversize radiators with a built in oil cooler setup - pretty much what all the factory motocross teams run. Having to stop and start when riding on the street makes the bike easy to overheat, so I'm doing about all I can to keep the heat down.

What do you use your bike for? Do you ride it on the street or just take it to the track once in a while?

I have to ride my bike on the street only, as the island of Oahu has had no road track for several years now. If we had a track, believe me, my bike would be on it! A couple of my officer friends have supermoto bikes, and they work at the training academy, which has a small track area used to teach emergency driving techniques. They've taken their bikes on the track a few times after hours, so I hope to able to get with them one of these days and hit the Police track.

Is this your first supermoto project or did you also build other supermoto bikes?

This is my second supermoto project. My first was a 2006 Suzuki DRZ400SM. It's heavily modified with a 50HP motor ( I actually swapped motors - I bought a kickstart only motor brand new off ebay and used that motor as the basis for my bike ), Marchesini wheels, slipper clutch, custom graphics, etc, etc, etc. I probably have about 8K into the bike over the cost of the bike itself.

Do you have any plans for another supermoto project in the future?

No plans for any future SM projects at this point. The only other change to my bike besides the stage 3 cooling kit and fan is to mount a stock type front number plate back on and run a projector beam style light for a headlight. I bought a 35 watt PIAA light, the 004X, and plan to mount it to the handguard bracket next to the top triple clamp.

Have you got any tips or advice for people that want to start a project like this?

The best tip I can give people who might be considering a project like this is don't even think about it if you are not fairly mechanically inclined and are used to custom fabrication and in depth maintenance on your bikes. For a project like this there are many things that don't come with directions, or things that have to be modified considerably to get them to work.
